« Avec un tout nouveau répertoire, Rifflet se propose d’explorer le côté foncièrement mystérieux de toute musique, visant à constamment surprendre l’auditeur, bousculer ses attentes, en produisant des « illusions » sonores pour quasiment le perdre dans son écoute souvent trop convenue. Cet « étonnement auditif » serait idéalement suscité dans l’ombre, voire l’obscurité totale. L’ambiance créée par cette musique complètement acoustique, sans artifices et sans limites, est progressivement « dérangée » par des sons inédits, des bruits, des improvisations émanant des musiciens du groupe qui comptent parmi les plus inventifs de la scène jazz européenne de nos jours. »

The French saxophonist, clarinetist and multi-reed player Sylvain Rifflet came to wider public attention with the album Rockingchair fronted by himself and trumpeter Airelle Besson, a critically praised début recording which received the Django d’Or 2008. After a series of remarkable performances at the CCRD opderschmelz, Rifflet conceived a completely new project exclusively tailored for the 5th edition of this jazz festival, in the creative reclusion of his residence at the cultural center of Dudelange. Rifflet’s promise holds in his ambition to create a new listening experience, by eliminating stereotypes, jostling expectations, rambling with the auditors in an acoustic adventure that could ideally be enjoyed with eyes wide shut. Constant surprise is at the core of the project, aiming at the involvement of auditors too often distracted by their own musical illusions. With the support of the members of his group, some of the most inventive and brilliant musicians on the European jazz scene, Rifflet manages to provide an enticing atmosphere, without pretension or artifice, yet boundless with the inclusion of unheard sounds, strange noises and inspired improvised material. »
